If you have basic knowledge of the German language, you can still apply for an RWTH master programme taught in German, but you must learn more German prior to the beginning of your planned study programme. You should have passed the German Language Certificate (Zertifikat Deutsch als Fremdsprache - ZDaF) in order to prove basic knowledge of German. For holders of ZDaF the deadline for applications is 15 January. In addition to applying for a Master programme you will have to also apply to attend an advanced German language course from April to September. Applicants enrolled on the course will sit the DSH-Certificate prior to beginning the Master programme in October.

This programme is appropriate for both engineers coming from industry as well as those coming directly from university. Candidates should be able to apply their knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering to identify, formulate and solve challenging engineering problems. They should be able to design a particular system, component or process to meet desired needs as well as to lay-out and perform experiments in a laboratory setting. In addition, candidates should recognise the need for life-long education.
