0 S# t! \+ z7 R4 l另有网友指出，这句话里使用冠词「The」，而且Chinaman一词用的是单数形式（singular form），应该是特指某人或某事，不是泛指中国人。所以也有可能指的是在拉斯维加斯颇受欢迎的演出「The Chinaman」。所以不必望文生义，如果写成复数形式Chinamen，再告不迟。

Clifford Kubiak, a professor of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of California San Diego, has posted an apology for an offensive term that was used on his laboratory’s website.csuchen.de* C% b6 h! q; c" Q

In a list of “lab rules,” apparently meant to be humorous, there was the phrase: “Don’t believe anything the Chinaman says.”$ r' K+ W8 ?5 \7 c  O$ |9 c& E6 v

The existence of the web page was disclosed on an Internet forum for Chinese speaking academics.

University officials took the site down as soon as they learned of it and issued an apology late Monday.

Kubiak’s message, posted on his lab website, reads:

I find the language offensive and I am embarrassed by the poor judgment exhibited in posting the offending language. Although I was unaware of the existence of this page until it was brought to my attention, I accept full responsibility. I have taken steps to remove the offending language and will arrange for appropriate training for my research group and me relative to the UCSD Principles of Community.”
