über den Referenten:

Dr. Chi Manjiao is an associate professor of international law in Xiamen University of China. He is also the researcher with the Chinese State Key Discipline of International Law, hosted by the International Economic Law Institute of Xiamen University. He is also an arbitrator with Xiamen Arbitration Commission and serves as counsel for companies and consulting expert for courts in China. Besides, Dr. Chi also undertakes the administrative work for the Secretariat of Xiamen Academy of International Law as deputy secretary.

Dr. Chi's major research fields include international arbitration, particularly the interaction of Chinese arbitration regime and international arbitration regime, international investment law. He has published extensively in the field of arbitration in both Chinese and English. Dr. Chi is current a visiting researcher at Max-Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg, where he researches on special issues raised by State as a party in commercial arbitration from a public international law perspective.

As one of the key economic entities in the world, China is the destination of a huge amount of foreign direct investment and forum for settlement of many international commercial disputes. Along with the economic development, commercial arbitration in China has been highlighted in the recent decade. The report will discuss the historical development of commercial arbitration in China, the present situation of Chinese arbitration law regime and defects of Chinese arbitration regime as well as some possible improvements. Besides, the report will also briefly discuss the possible development of Chinese arbitration regime in the near future. Questions are welcome.
