Uriginal From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search
Uriginal is the generic term of pieces of culture (mainly Japanese) that many Korean people believe to be originated in Korea, which is not really the case. The term is a portmanteau word that is a combination of "uri" (a Korean word meaning "our", 우리) and "original".
[edit] Examples of UriginalJudo | Pronounced yudo in Korean. United States Yudo Associationclaims that judo is originated in Korea and introduced into Japanduring the time of the invasion by Toyotomi Hideyoshi.[1] Judo is actually a martial art developed from jujitsu, which was invented far much before the invasion. | Kendo | Pronounced kumdo in Korean. Many kumdo associations claim that kumdo is the origin of kendo, or that they have the same origin. [2] [3]. Korea Kumdo Assiciation, which is the biggest kumdo association, claims kendo is originated in Korea[4]. But All Japan Kendo federation officially denies these claims[5][6]. | Samurai | Ssaul-abi, a Korean motion picture which was created in 2002, claims that the word samurai and the custom of samurai comes from ssaul-abi, meaning "fighting man" in the Korean language[7][8]. Haidong Gumdo claims the word samurai is deriven from Samurang. But the etymology of samurai is clear (Samurai#Etymology_of_samurai_and_related_words) and these beliefs are not commonly held outside Korea. | Akita Inu | Yun Singeun, the president of 한국동물보호연구회 (Korean Association forAnimal Protection) claims that Akita Inu is derived from Jindogae (진돗개,Jindo dogs).[9]. According to Ogasawara Keiichi from Akitainu Introduction Foundation, Akita Inu "settled in Akita Prefecture via Hokkaido, through Russia, from Europe".[10] | Koi | Kimbangwon Aquarium says that the origin of Koi is of Korean origin.[11]. According to International Nisikigoi Promotion Centre, nisikigoi came into existence as a mutant in Niigata Prefecture in the 19th century.[12] | Chinese characters | Some Koreans claim that Chinese characters are invented by the Koreans. [13] | English people | The website"Ancient Art of Korea", along with other sources, claims Koreans arethe ancestors of English people (and yet, ironically, the websitemisspelled the English word ancestor as ancester). [14] | Languages all over the world | Daejong Institute of Language Research claims 우리나라는 세계어문의 종주국이다 (Our nation is the suzerain of world languages) [15] | Letterpress printing | Korea hold an exhibition named "Korea is the birthplace of lettepress printing" in Germany, the country in which Johannes Gutenberg was born.[16] | Soccer | As for the origin of soccer, the Korean Football Association wrotethat it was Korea in the official website, but was later objected bythose who read the comment. They did not want to delete the assertion, but later accepted the protest from FIFA and erased it unwillingly.[17] | Among the other claims include the origin of sumo, origami, sado, kado, ikebana, bonsai, sashimi, miso, sushi, udon, sake, katana, waka, manyoshu, kabuki, kimono, kana, jinja, Tenno, folding fan, yoga, the game of rock, paper, scissors, papermaking, printmaking, acupuncture, the tale of The Tortoise and the Hare, the nation of Japan, the Four Great Ancient Civilizations, and so on which, according to some Koreans and Korean mass media, can all be traced back to the Korean Peninsula.
