General Motors announced Monday that, thanks to an uptick in sales plus lower debt and expenses after bankruptcy, it made $865 million in profit in the first quarter of this year  its first profit posting since the second quarter of 2007. Just a year after losing $6 billion in the same quarter of 2009, stanley cup  the company says its revenue is up 40 percent.  We ;re pleased with our first quarter performance, in particular achieving profitability, Chris Liddell, vice chairman and chief financial officer, said in a statement. The government can recoup that money by selling stock. NASA s OSIRIS-REx mission and the asteroid Bennu have had a date planned for two years, and about noon ET today, they ll finally get to meet face to face.The mission -- which stands for Origins, Spec stanley france tral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security-Regolith Explorer stanley flask  -- will be NASA s first asteroid sample return mission. It launched in September 2016 and will spend two years up close and personal with Bennu. First images of the asteroid from the spacecraft s perspective have appeared as it got closer and closer.Over the next year, OSIRIS-REx will survey the asteroid using five scientific instruments on board the spacecraft. These instruments will help it determine a safe location from which to collect a small sample from Bennu s surface that will be returned to Earth stanley cup  in September 2023. Bennu s low gravity provides a unique challenge for the mission,  said Rich Burns, OSIRIS-REx project manager at NASA s Goddard Space Flight Center.  At roughly 0.3 mile in diameter, Bennu will be the smallest object that any spacecraft has ever orbited. Thomas S. Monson, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died Tuesday at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah, according to a statement from the organization. He was 90.Monson became president of the church in 2008, and served in that capacity until his death. He  passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family,  LDS posted on the church s verified Facebook page.    Monson was born in Salt Lake City in 1927. He served in the US Navy near the close of World War II, according to his church biography.After the war, he graduated from the University of Utah and started a career in publishing.He spent his life serving in the church, becoming a bishop at the age of 22. He was presiding over the church s Canadian mission by hi stanley tumbler s early 30s, becoming a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles -- which is a high executive body in the church -- at age 36. He also supervised the church s missions around the world including the western US, South Pacific, Mexico, Central America and Europe, according to the church s statement. He was also assigned to countries behind the Iron Curtain where he worked to spread the religion during the Cold War and helped to get the Freiberg Germany Temple constructed.Monson was the 16th president of the Church of Latter-d stanley cup usa ay Saints, a role that is served for life.
