ZrB2 (3245 °C) and HfB2 (3380 °C) are the recent high temperature ceramics. The combined composite of them made by NASA is used as thermal insulation materials for shuttle.
The material is very stable at very high temperatures (near 2000°C).The disadvantage is poor thermal shock behavior. But I think this is very normal for most of crucibles including Al2O3 and ZrO2. Toughened zirconia is definitely not the candidate for crucibles.作者: gunforce 时间: 2009-4-7 15:10
If the quartz is pure monophase, then it should be OK at that temperature. But quartz is easy to transform at high temperature, and the different phase with different thermal expansion coefficients in the main body would lead to cracks.
